During the elections the two met at a meeting at Durban at which Boydell called Marwick a coward. Marwick then hit Boydell. They next met at the Empire Parliamentary Association’s meeting at the conclusion of which Boydell demanded an apology. This Marwick refused, whereupon Boydell hit him thrice, breaking three teeth and rendering Marwick unconscious.
