LAID BARE AFTER CENTURIES 20 FEET HIGH WITH TWO TON STONES The expedition organised by Sir Charles Marston to example the old walls of Jericho began wor in January, and has already laid bare sections of the stone ramparts which enclosed the city during the. bronze age. These are of surprising strength, some' of the stones weighing two tons, and in places the uncovered walls stand more than 20 feet high The defences are described by Professor Garstang, who is in charge of the wor, as being built before the year 2000 B.C. The remains of the city which Joshua captured are being sought on the highest part of the city mound.
