OFFERED BY BALLOT UNIMPROVED CROWN LAND SETTLEMENT SCHEME 'Per Press Association). Nelson, March 17. In an interview with a Ma.l reporter to-day, Hon. G. Forbes, Minister of Lands, stated that in pursuance of the Government's policy of c.oser settlement his department had at present forty-five sections of improved land which, would he deposed of by ballot in the near future. These included the Wilden settlement, near Edievale, Southland, comprising eleven sections of grazing and mixed farming land which would be opened an the 31st inst. There was also the Roseberry settlement, Oamaru, comprising nine sections of dairying and agricultural land whijih would be opened on the 7 fit proximo. The Tapanui settlement (Otago) of nine sections is to be opened on the Ist pro;_mo and dunes settlement (Methren) of eight sections of mixed farming land is to be ipened on the 7fh >roxim°* “In addition to these activities,” aid the Minister, “my department 4 offering for selection a large nu ini' of unimproved Crown sections vitli reipect to which liberal advances -ill he made to selectors to enable he'll to carry out the necessary improvements as provided in the legislation of last session.” The advisory committees appointed under the Act were activity engaged 5n the field and additional sections would he offered as their reports came to hand.
