CITIZENS* ASSOCIATION . THE ANNUAL MEETING SOME PRESENT ATI ONS For the Annual meeting of patients and Scouts held last night in the Parish Hall for the purpose of receiving the report and balancesheet and electing the Citizens’ Committee, there was «i good attendance of Scouts and Cubs, a fair attendance of mothers and a, very poor attendance of fathers. Air E. Hassell, Commissioiner, presided. Miss WiL son, Akela of the Cubs for New Zealand, and a, couple of Scouts from Bulls, were present and were cordially welcomed. Speaking to the report, which was adopted, the Commissioner referred to the annual Dominion Conference of Scouts Associations Held in Christchurch last week, where, he said it was reported New Zealand had more Scouts in proportion to the boy'population than any other country in the. world. Major-General Andrew, the Chief Scout, had resigned, and Col. Fenwick, C.M.G., V.D., etc, had been Unpointed Chief, for the Dominion. The Committee which went- out of office was re-elected, on the motion, of Messrs J. McDonald and A. J> Geary.

Mr A. C. Buist, District Scoutmaster and bon. secretary of Mthp' Citizens’ Association, made . an appeal for honorary members at os pef annum, and also for donations towards the £lO required for the> Scouts’ camp in January.

Air C. S. Jeffs Was down for aspeech, but gave way to- Scout Ellery of Bulls, who- had attended the world Jamboree in England this year. Scout gave m rapid and extremely interesting, report of the trip and hip experiences. Unfortunately he became ill in London, and missed the Jnmborlee, hut while in hospital he received a personal letter from the Chief Scout, 'Lord Baden-Powell, .:\ ' * , inviting him to come and stay with* him. He later accepted the invitation, and spent two days with the Chief Scout, who gave him. «u wonderful time, driving him. all over the place in his “Jam Boll” (Bolls Boyce) Scout Ellery was loudly applauded on. concluding his report.

PRESENTATION TO AIR AND AIRS HOCKEN

A- framed address, artistically done by Mr T. K. Hay, was presented to Mrs 11. E. Hocken (My Hocken being absent through indisposition). Major McLean fiyst said no one knew how good and kind and thoughtful Mr and Mrs Hocken had. bgcn to the Boy Scouts during the annual camps at their lovely ho-me at “Grasmere.”

Scoutmaster Street the address, saying the Scouts would never forget the pleasures of the camps, and the kindness of Mr and Airs Hocken and family. "The text of the address was ns follows:

“To Mr and Mrs Hocken ‘Gross.more,’ Golyton. “Wo desire to express our deep sense of gratitude to you for your kindness to us in the Scout Camps held on your property in January, 1028 and 1020. Your provision of a beautiful camp site supplemented by your most (clomstant thovig'htfuineiss and sincere regard for our welfare have endeared you and your, family to every Scout and earned the appreciation of the Feilding Citizens’ Committee and of our parents. We wish you both, with your family, long life and happiness and sincerely ' thank you for helping us in our desire to do our duty to God, the King and our E.ellowmen.” Mrs Hockcn received the address with a few words of grateful! thanks expressive of the plasure it gave her husband, her family and Herself to have the boys at the camp. INVESTITURES ' Cubmaster (Eileen Geary was invested by Miss Wilson with, the Wood Radge, the. reward of stiff practical tests,' which Miss Wilson said the Cubmaster had- faithfully earned. Scoutmaster Street was presented, with the five years’ service badge. The Commissioner presented the troop with a Troop Flag, which was duly received and saluted by the Scouts, and the Commissioner heartily thanked. ■Some exhibitions of Spout work and a, haka were included in the programme, which concludd with a bountiful supper.
