The expediency of inviting the Gine® of the Liomkto Women , •Police to Constantinople has been under consideration by .the Union of Turkish Kudies. Tlie> question of the participation of the Turkish women in the police force lias recently given rise to much controversy in feminist circles.
Among the members , 'of the Union of Turkish Ladies it is held that the innovation will help to elmihate dedauchery. Other ladies, especially teachers, dislike’ 1 the idea of the Turkish women being In contact with the scum of the people, and urge that ‘she shall first learn how to perform her duties as housewife. Tlie dispute calls attention t-o the progress of feminism in Turkey. ' Of all reforms brought about in that country in the course of the past few years, the improvement In the. status of women must undoubtedly be considered the mast promising. Its strongest supporters are the present leading statesmen.
