TOOTH OF DIPROTODON
IDENTITY OF A FIND/ IN EXCAVATIONS AT ACTON RELIC OF A MILLION YEARS AGO A remarkable find of what is believed to be a tooth of a diprotodon has been made by a workman engaged in excavations for the foundations of the building for the Australian Institute of Anatomy, at Acton, Canberra territory. The workman regarded the object as a peculiar looking fossil and handed it to Dr. Tillyard, Director of Entomological! Research (formerly of New Zealand), who suggested to Dr. AYoolilough, the Commonwealth Government’s geological adviser, that it was the tooth of a diprotodon. Dr. AYoolmough has takenit to Sydney for identification by the Australian Museum. The find n likely to stimulate an active search around Canberra for further remains of prehistoric animals. Dr. Tillyard (whq was, on the Caw. tliroiii staff at Nelspn) raid that there was no reason why,The remains of early man should not be found in the same locality. Dr. AVoolnougli recently pronounced the Ma.jura Valley a 5 a likely fruitful field for the discovery of the remains of prehistoric animals.
