What pi'oof can we give that p a rf® rs IS The fact that in eight years our sales have increased five-fold —increased so rapidly, indeed, that our works have had to be enlarged each year. This is proof that the N.Z. Farmers’ Fertilisers Co.’s fertilisers are consistently right —always dry, always in perfect drilling condition, rich in plant foods. Only this consistent high quality couki create such a consistent increase in demand. This season we are ready for a bigger demand than ever for SUPERPHOSPHATE, 44/46% BASIC SUPERPHOSPHATE NAURU OCEAN PHOSPHATE COMPLETE FERTILIZERS (for all crops) containing Nitrogen, Phosphates and Potash. Also, from September Ist. we shall have ample supplies of very finely ground North African Phosphate. The time to top-dress is fast approaching. POSSIBILITIES OF ] “SUPER” USE OF HEAVIER DRESSINGS. ■INCREASING YIELD PER ACRE. Tt. is now well recognised tli; 1 1 closely l grazed, nutritions sward,, plentifully supplied with minerals, is sought after by dairy cattle in preference to pastures not so well supplied. Now the question . arises as to what extent our pastur.es 1 qre capable of profitably responding to j larger and more frequent dressings p,f • minerals than are at present given, i Take, for instance, the case of superphosphate. We know that a dressing of “ .cwt. per acre will give a good response. We have yet to find the effects of three dressings of - cwt. each, or one dressing of 0 cwt. per acre, either alone or combined with other fertilisers. MORE NUTRITIOUS PEED. Most of our experiments so far have been with small amounts per acre with visible results in an increase in pasture growth. We have now a new criterion, 1.0,, the production of butter-fat per acre. This may be greatly increased by the pasture plants not producing; so much extra growth* but having a higher percentage of mineral niafter, in the herbage. ' Among this mineral matter, phosphates will always be of importance, but others have to be considered also. Calcium is becoming the focus of much attention because, when present in sufficient quantities, it helps the cows to assimilate and use phosphates. It also acts as a safeguard against /diseases. CALCIUM FREE OP COST. Another chemical of importance in both plants and animals is sulphur. This is absorbed in the form of sulphates, and it is remarkable that the first arti-' ficial fertiliser manufactured superphosphate —contains not only 1 • ■wat^f;'. soluble phosphates, but also niucA, calcium and sulphur. Superphospha,te, ; ( is> sold on toe basis of its phosphate contei.,-. but, in addition, the farmer re-, ceives, free of cost, much valuable gypsum or calcium sulphate. It now seems that much of the vfilue of: superphosphate is due to the presence of this gypsum in its composition. • ONLY BEGINNING TO BE REALISED. With a basis of superphosphate, the dairy farmer can exploit the possibilities of ins pastures for obtaining a fapiß-. return for his investment, and test to what extent •an adequate 'supply of minerals will profitably raise the per cow and per acre production. In this direction the possibilities of increasing prodiwlon from pastures by the use of largci .juantities of superphosphate are *uly beginning to be realised.
