THIS WEEK'S REPORT . - (Per Press Association). Christchurch, Sept. 3. A further slide of close OP 20s a ton has occurred in the potato market. The value to-day of September delivery is £7 15s a ton f.0.b.5.i.: on Friday it was £8 12s Gd; and a week ago £lO. “Prompts" have linen sold at £7 5s a ton. Values,to farmers ar e £0 on trucks, a drop of £2 a ton on a week ago. The avalanche of potatoes shipped north by the last three boats—the Waipiata, Kawatiri and Wingatul—has driven all parts of the North Island off the market. The total comprised from all ports I*% .15 580 sacks, and it is possible (hat. this quantity will suffice Auckland until the commencement of next month. The readiness with which the potatoes have come forward raises doubts as to the correctness of the statistical position published recently. More light, on (his aspect will be provided when th e September deliveries are dealt, with. R Gai'tons oats are firm and have been sold at 3s 7d f.o.b.s.i. The North Island is inquiring, antil there Is "a scarcity of spot oats. Chaff, is'not. in much request; it is worth £4 5s to £4'los on trucks.
