After the results ol the Matriculation examinations.' wore published there appeared in: the papers ol New Zealand .a report ol a. meeting of the Thames Higl'l School Board of Governors in which grave, refleetioiiH were made on the fairness of the examination. The University in(ade enquiries both from the headmaster of the school w!A> was’, said to be the source of the. information and from the Hoard at the meeting of which tho statement; were reported to have been made.. It, appears that the report was of an informal talk . that followed the meeting and referred to some conversation that took place some days previously between a, headmaster and, the' secretary of the Board. Tho headmaster now deni<i; that lie. made, any .reflection on the- fairness of the oxamina.ti'on. and in. a. letter to the. University says: “I dpi not know tho name of even one assistant examiner.
