A MONSTER EEL
LANDED. BY A SPEAR

Probably one of the largest eels ever caught in New Zealand waters is a. 34/pounder landed by two young men. Leo Care, of Cambridge, and Pat Smith, who, while fishing from a dinghy in the Hate a. stream, noticed a black form swimming in clear water. A flatfish spear made of two shark I'ixffcs straightened out was at once ‘ used wi\t!v effect. From tlie tip of its tail to its mouth the, cel measured exactly six feet in 'length, and it was 48 inches round the girth. It had a, iver as large as a bullock’s. An cel caught at Inglewood weighing 31 -jlh. recently was cohsideed to have been a record.
