French publicist. in an article on British migration in !,e Mat:u, says that- at present only three countries are a hie to supply white immigrants—Germany, Poland, ami Italy. At present Germany is holding, hack, hut Italy has begun a systematic scheme ol colonisation. Methodically and systematically Italians are going to Australia. The Australian authorities are not encouraging them, hut they manage without it. owing to their own excellent local organisation. Each newcomer finds the credits noces saiy to establish him in a sort of loan, of honour which he engages to re turn by making a. loan on the cohorts following him. It is easy to imagine that alter years o| this kind of penetration Australia, and Canada tv’ll not retain tlveir traditional aspect of British Dominions. Their spirit will he changed and their political tendencies modified.
