Between 400 and 500 spectators attended the Alanawata Centre’s? swimming carnival held in Palmerston last night and there was not a dull moment during the two and a. half hours occupied hy the- lengthy programme. The principal event was the 100 yards .championship oi the. Alanawatu Centre, won by WHarrison, of Fixton. In the second heat R. Mclntosh (Fending) secured second place. The time lor the fi.rs> heat was 70 2-5 sees., for the second 69 3-asecs, and the final 66 3-5 secs., a Cenin-, record.
The events competed by Feilding swimmers were as follows : —- Gifls’ 33 1-3 yards handicap (under 16)—N. Milverton 1, R. Harford (eilding) 2, J. AlcUomvld 3. Hurinui, of Foxton, who recently gave a pleasing display in the, Feilding ha i lls, won the hoys’ 66 2-3 yards handicap with a handicap oi 3 secs-; in. 51 1-5 secs. Ladies’- 66 2-3 yards handicap—Miss. Ngaire Oliver (2 secs.) 1, Aliss Bertha Dew© (Feilding) scr. 2, Alias A. Noble (Feilding) 3 secs., 3. Time, 62 .secs. Alisa Dewe .appeared to get blocked alter catching up half » length from home. Aliss B. Hewitt (To Awa) one time of Feilding, came third, in the Indies dive. 220 yards men’s Alanawatu breaststroke championship (holder G. S Leeder—G. 18. Leeder 1© K. Moffat* 2. C. Bnrltrop (Feilding) 3. Time. 2 min. 31 3-5 sees.
Aren’s diving—R. ATelntosh (Feilding) 1. The Feilding team, including AUss Dewe, secured a second place Tn tho flying squadron relay race. Aliss B. Harford scored first in the; consolation.
