A debate in the Chamber of Deputies on the subject of the - order for the arrest of Communist Deputy Dnriot progresesed in an atmosphere of tension owing to the rumour that Doriot would make a- dramatic entry. But there was no appearance.

Poriot was last heard of m Moscow. He was sentenced in his absence last year to 18 months’ imprisonment on a charge of antimilitarist propaganda in connection with the war in Alorocco.. He still has a right to appeal to the Court. There is another prosecution ponding for alleged treasonable conduct and speeches while on a visit to Chi-

na. . . 'The debate followed the decision ot Al. Barthou that Doriot should he arrested immediately and returned to France. But this was nullified bv the announcement that Doriot had exercised his right to appeal. Further action was therefore suspended.
