M Bruce of Australia, in Ins speech at the Toronto dinner said:-t I know there will be a number of people who have . been very much alive and very loyal in their belief in the Empire, and' who believe onv Empire Is tho greatest force towards-the universal peace of the world, who have a kind of apprehension that something has been done (in granting freedom of action to the Dominions) that might eventually to its disintegration. Gentlemen, 1 wish to, Say that there.- is rcbfc Ihe slightest foundation for such suspicion, or allegation What was done there was done with my cordial co-operation and assistance, because I believed it to be wise and would tend to a- closer nil it—ing of the Empire. If the determinations'' of the Imperial Conference bad been to impair in the ‘slightest degree that unity it would never have bad mv consent- I would h ave fought to the Rst ditch to prevent such action .
