FIJI PEARL INDUSTRY
SOME BEAUTIFUL SPECIMENS In one of the glass eases in the Fiji Court at the Dunedin 1 Exhibition may be seen some very fine pearls of various kinds. Twenty-nine of tlie white variety, .perfectly matched and absolutely flawless, are set in a bracelet. These were the pick of 300 and took three rears to assemble.
Of greater interest perhaps, because more uncommon, are two 'cry large black pearls, one weighing 40 grains, and the other* about 20 grains. It is unusual to see pearls of such a size, and these specimens arc conspicuous dlso for the Jact that they are of almost jet lustre. Pearling is 0110 of tlie many industries carried on in Fiji, large numbers of shells being shipped from these islands.
