Rqmbadie r John Lincoln, arrested in connection with the. shooting of lulward .Richards; at Trowbridge, turns out to be a; son of the notori-, ous Tribitsch Lincoln, a p’ormer member of Parliament for Darlington, who was deported form England. Richards apparently fired his own revolver, in defence. 'He had a large 5 sum of . money in his possession: The police found seven empty pistol cartridges on the scene of the crime, and they are now following up clues connected with the mystery. There is said to he a woman in the case.

He was arrested jn 1915 on a charge of forgery, but escaped to America. Then he was extradited and brought home- The authori-
ties were mainly anxious to get him back to .England as it was alleged that he had divulged important military and naval secrets to the Central Powers. These charges were never actually proved, but he was denationalised and deported from England).
