The Sydney representative drew first blood by defeating; Miller in 13 moves in a queen’s pawn game. Dunlop v. Gyles, the Vienna game, resulted in a fierce struggle, Civics winning on fhq 59th move. Moir v. E. Ev, l licks, queen’s gamhit declined, in which flicks got a very cramped game' and resigned on the 30th move. Swerne v, Fenwick, French defence on ‘irregular lines. Won by Fenwick after a long struggle. Barnes and Davies had lives. .Purdvf v. Pihl, a two knights defence, in ‘which Pi hi lowered the colours of last year’s champion in n well played game. Anderson v. E. A. Hides, French defence, resulting in a keen struggle and won I*v Anderson
