IN TROUBLE AGAIN

PLAN TO BALANCE 1 BUDGET

There is a tenseness in the political atmosphere of France- this weekend —greater than- any since the bid of the war

Al. Briand’s Government is split within itself, the Radical members opposing the Rremk-r and Al. Rohmer (Minister of; Finance) and the Left cartel under ALAI. Herriot and Blum is making a last strong attempt to take hack the complete direction of affairs and reform its i-anks under its own leadei’s. It will lay on the Chamber’s table on Monday its plan for balancing -next sear’s Budget. If will then be incumbent on the -Government to accept or give way and if the Government declines to accept it's defeat will follow.

Tbe Left’s plan includes a' reduction of eight .hundred- million francs in the 1920 Budget through nationwide economies and rigid application of the income tax, with an increase as high as 200 per cent-, in -the 'severe penalties for all tax-dodgers froih farmers to industrialists (including prison sentences and ‘.suspension of civil rights), and a, 30- per cent, reduction in income tax oh ' salaried persons
