SERIES OF GENEROUS GIFTS

DONATIONS TO EDUCATION. CANCER RESEARCH FUNDS BENEFIT. (Per Press Association. J Dunedin, July 21. At a meeting of the University Council this afternoon a letter was received from the Invercargill Savings Bank making a gift of £IOOO for the establishment of a scholarship for girls attending Southland and Gore High Schools.

The Dunedin Savings Bank forwarded a gift of £750 for a new dental school.

Both gifts were received with thanks.

The trustees of the estate 'of Lizzie Ratlibone wrote asking if the Council would accept the sum of £3OOO for the purpose Of scholarships. The trustees formulated certain conditions surrouhcling the gift and these were referred to the Finance Committee with power to act.

The widow of Mr H. A. Massey forwarded a gift of £IOOO which she stated she had promised for New Zealand cancer research for use in any way that would produce the best and quickest results. The gift wits received with thanks. In connection with cancer research work a gift of £IOO was received from the estate of a working man who died of cancer in Wellington. The £IOO will carry a subsidy of £1 for £l, as also will Mrs Massey’s gift.
