GORGE ROAD CONTROL.

At the monthly meeting ol the Manawatn Guargc Road Board ol Control there were present: Messrs E. J. Nathan (in the chair), J. Batchelor, 31. O. Grainger, R. S. Chadwick, 0. -MeElroy, and H. Cornelius. ENGINEERS’ REPORT. ’Die engineers, Messrs Jickell and Gilmour, presented the following report: During the month 119 cubic yards of rock were excavated in road road widening on hillside (day work), and 118 cubic yards in column formdations: viii'cls ol concrete weie placed in position in 10 columns and 300 lineal feet of slabs, beams, walls, ami dkerb. Very bad weather corrditioiii-; prevailed, particularly during the second .half ol the month, and the progress of tire work was hindered in consequence. Up to July 1.0 no less than 37 slips had come down, varying in sixes from 10 to 900 cubicyards, and totalling approximately 6000 cubic yards. The road was closed on four occasions in June owing to slips. Roth Mr 1'• M. 1 urkert-, cnginccr-in-chief. and 31r J. Hannah, district engineer to the Public Works Department, have inspected tlu Gorge'road since last meeting.—

Adopted. Accounts amounting to .Cl 172 v 10s 4d were passed for payment.
