OBITUARY

P. J. KELLY The death took- place at Foilding early on Christmas morning of Mr Patrick James Kelly, barrister, solicitor and notary public, and s well-known resident. Deceased, who was born at Kumara, on the Wesl Coast followed the profession of law clerk at Hokitikn, Wcstport, and other places, subsequently entering into practice at Feilding. where he had resided for about 17 year:.. For ji" time he was in partnership with Mr A. M. Ongley, now of Palmerston North. .The deceased is survived by his widow, a'son, Thomas Kelly, and a sister Mrs York, of Ohaknne. JOHN AITKEN .'. well-known resident of Feilding in the person of .Mr Jolm Aitken, passed away "at his home on Christmas Day. Deceased who was born in Monance, Scotland, arrived at Nelson in the ship Magala years ago. He was"gold-mining on the AVest Coast'in 1872, coming to Feilding six years later. He helped in the construction, of the railway at Bunnythorpe when the Manchester block was first settled, and with the late Mr Charles Bray had charge of n number of road works for the Emigrants' and Colonists' Aid Corporation. For many years he was toll keeper at the Manawatu Gorge bridge, aftouwards taking charge of the ferry. He leaves a widow, two sons and two da lighters— Messrs C. B. Aitken (Feilding), and : Walter Aitken (Waipnwn); Mesdanies A. Eade (Feilding), and J. Clapham (Newmarket, Auckland) ,besides 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children.
