The flood of (British gold that is expected', to come to the United States is worrying the Treasury officials and giving concern to Britain. The British arc under obligation, to pay nearly 20 million pounds this year, and the present outlook is that it will ,be paid in gold. Next year about 32 million pounds are to be paid. The British Government can pay in gold or United States securities, but as the latter are above par the natural course is to pay in gold, and. the prospect is that there will he such an influx of gold as to be burdensome to the United States, while draining Europe of its gold supply.
