Wholly commendable is the action of his Worship the Mayor in placing the fill! details of the agreement arrived at hy himself and his Council with the Alnnawatu-Oroun HydroElectric Power Board for the purchase by the latter of the power plant in Fail ding prior to the coming of the '‘juice” from the .Mangalino scheme. Mr Tingoy and the Borough Council have placed their cards on thp table. The hand has to be played officially, and here is the ehaticc for all interested, to criticise a transaction that only awaits the confirmation of the Council and the Board. The substantial users of electrical power should carefully scan the proposals, and if they see any flaw in. them, now is the opportunity and it becomes their duty to let the Mayor ami Council know what they think about it. For our paid, after carefully scanning the offer from the points of view of the borough and the Power Board we have come to the conclusion that it fair to our ratepayers and to the larger constituency of the State. For, after all, there is only the difference between a local body and a. national body in the change over when the Mangahao current is turned on. Neither Council nor Board, arc in the position of hagglers. A fair and a square deal is all that should'he the outcome of negotiations, and we think this has been achieved in the very interesting and important document which was published in yesterday’s Star. As the matter comes up shortly for conli mi-nt-ion, critics should study the details at once, and let the municipality know of their approval or disapproval —for constructive criticism will he useless after confirmation.
