SOCIAL NOTES

The coming-of-ago of Miss Florrie Reid, the eldest daughter of Mr and Mis James Reid, was celebrated in a most lavish maimer Monday night at the fine residence of Mrs Browar, Shirwcll street, Eeilding. A very pleasant evening was spent in games and dancing, which were held in the spacious ballroom attached to tile house. Over GO friends and relations were present and all thoroughly enjoyed the evening's entertainment. A dainty supper was provided, at which Miss Reid was accorded the usual birthday honours.

Shoes! All the, Way—morning, afternoon, and evening. Some of the most, captivating of the new styles are showing at Hannah's. For street wear the strap shoe is decidedly in favour and may be chosen with Cuban, semi-Louis, or Louis heel. Glace kid, patent leather, and suede all vie with each other for popularity. Then there are the .smart combination effects in suedo and patent, patent and dull calf, and suede and calf. Beaded effects are very correct. A pair of fawn suede shoes, open front, with beaded toe, are very smart, indeed, and another in putty shade hid has strappings of darker brown. Sonicbeautiful patent shoes are on view, and Feilding certainly has the opportunity of being right up to the moment this season with smart footwear. • • • * Mrs Edward Elliott, widow of the late Mr Elliott (who was one oT the principal comedians in the Humphrey Bishop Company, and who passed nway in Walliiigton recently, leaves Wellington for England by the Corinthic this week with her two ehildren. Mrs Elliott is a native of Lowestoft, and on reaching the Old Country, from which she has been absent for some time owing to the world tour upon -which her husband was engaged will visit relatives prior to settling down in the South of England. She was deeply touched by the numerous letters of kindness and sympathy received when her sorrow came upon her, and these helped considerably Lo console her in her loss. It is not improbable that she may at some future date again take up her stage career.
