General Smuts, addressing the House of Assembly, said that Without the full confidence of the country the Government was not prepared to carry on, and lie therefore proposed, after passing the necessary appropriation acts, to advise the Gover-nor-General to dissolve Parliament. U possible, the necessary legislation would be passed by Thursday through both Houses. .Mr (,'resswell asked whether the election would take (dace before or after the visit of the Prince of Wales ,as it would he distinctly inconvenient to have the country in a turmoil whilst it was entertaining the Prince. The Premier did not reply. Gn the motion to adjourn, General Hert/.og was sure the general public would welcome an adjournment and an opportunity of expressing their views. Mr Cresswell. speaking amid an uproar of cheers and-counter-cheers, declared that from the day the -Parliament was elected on completely false issues the Labour Party had looked for'this dissolution. 'I he last election was intended solely for the reduction of the Labour representation and they now accepted the Government's challenge, confident that the people would reject the present Government. After other had spoken the House adjourned.
