There has commenced the trial ol five men—Arms, Costello, Toolan, Leslie Taylor, au.l Thomas Taylor-—on a charge of conspiring to assist. Angus Murray to escape from Melbourne gaol. A witness named Gleeson, an employee at the gaol, gave evidence os to Costello, who was a fellow warder, ofleriiig him money if lie would go off sick to enable the plot to be carried out. Toolan, also, made an. offer oi another job and a cut out oi £250 when the job was finished. Plans for (•(feeling the escape, were shown to him.
