PORT SAID MEMORIAL.

FOR THE ANZAC TROOPS. Regarding the monument which it is proposed to be erected at Port Said in memory of the soldiers of tlie Australian and New Zealand forces who gave their lives in Egypt, Palestine, and Syria, the Returned Soldiers’ Association has received a commmunication from the Secretary of the Defence Department, Melbourne, concerning the progress which has been made. Copies of the protograph of the winning design were enclosed. The design is an exceptionally fine one, representing two horsemen in action, one mounting and the other dismounting, and standing on a base similar to the Cenotaph base. Relief is afforded by showing glimpses of horsemen galloping into action across tlie desert. The monument will bo placed at Port Said, close to tho entrance of the Suez Canal, facing east, and “Dar-El-Sultane,” the road by which all ancient and modern armies from Egypt had marched to the conquest of Palestine and Syria. Tlie monument will be seen by all passengers to and from Great Britain, j India, Australia, and New Zealand.
