Amies, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Motu (Poverty Bay), who has been promoted to a position at Rongotea, was entertained at a smoke concert by the settlers of the Motu and Matawai districts prior to his departure. Returning home, he was appointed to Christchurch, and last year was made President of the Conference. Brown, the well known Baptist preacher, of London. Mr Brown was the first minister of tlio East London Tabernacle, where he held a very successful pastorate for 25 years. He afterwards succeeded his old college president the Rev. C. H. Spurgeon at the Metropolitan Tabernacle. Mr Brown took part in the Auckland Baptist Tabernaple diamond jubilee services when visiting the city in 1915. Mrs Brown predeceased her husband by only 10 days.
