Every so often in life's experiences the pendulum swings right back again. History repeats itself. There is nothing new under the sun. Trite sayings bubble up one after another. There is talk to-day, as though it was something new under tlio sun, of establishing a system dubbed Post Primary Schools. It is an old friend under a new name—a phrase coined to gild the pill. When New Zealand had its Seventh Standard, who talked about Post Primary ? /And with all the talk from the experts of the secondary system about Higher Education after tlio Lower School, the experience to-day is exactly the same as it was 40 years or 20 years ago, which is that more is learned after the boy has left school than was gained in five or six or seven years of passing through that many or few standards. The boy and the girl has to realise the. need' for more education beforo the Post Primary or any other development can be of any practical use. What will have to come into our education system after tlio three R’s liavo been instilled will bo a system of specialisation under which the scholar will be facilitated in following his bent. That will he real education, it will mako instruction a joy and a benefit, and will give the State as well as the individual the best value for all the money invested in teaching and training Young New Zealand.
