A wife cannot be libelled by her husband was the decision of the Recorder in the Central Criminal Court in quashing an indictment against a husband for publishing a defamatory libel against his wife. Tho defence quoted a leading case, wherein it was held that a wife could not proced against her husband for libel, as the libel might arise from angry passions and a x desire for revenge, which might lead to a breach of the peoce. / The Recorded commented: '"T supposo the Judge thought passions ought to bo settled in tho domestic forum. If a man hits his wife, she has a remedy if he inflicts severe injury. In writing libellious postcards she has none." •
