The Feilding Star Oroua and Kiwitea Counties' Gazette FRIDAY, MAY 19, 1922. THE MINISTER OF RAILWAYS.
A NBIVB it-em just sent out from Wellington announces that the member lor Oroua has been promoted from acting to actual Minister for Pailways, a position ho had been filling for' a year past. When delivering his pre-sessional speech in Feilding last weolc, Mr Massey paid a high tribute of praiso to Mr Guthrie, and stated that some timo ago he had urged our niembor to assume the Ministry of Railways, instead of continuing to give the credit for the portfolio to the Premier. "Mr Guthrie is altogether, too modest," was Mr Massoy's verdict on that subject. However, Mr Guthrie has at last taken full charge, and has added one more to the many departments of which he is the political overlord. To the member for Oroua will now belong the responsibility as well as the credit of initiating reforms in the railway service, which sadly needs reforming from inside and popularising from the outside. And we believo that he will make a very big effort to accomplish something effective alike for business interests and the travelling public.
