ALL-WORLD FLIGHT

MAJOR BLAKE’S NEW PLANS STARTING ONIMPIRE DAY London. May G. Major AV. T. Blake, who has undertaken tho flight round tho world, in the stead of tho late Sir Ross Smith, has now arranged to begin a flight on Empire Day (May 24). The Daily News states that the air voyago will be divided into four stages Major Blake using a different machine for each one. His first will be a tlireeseater D.H.9. fitted with a 230-horse-power Siddeley-Puma- engine. He will change at Calcutta into a Faircy three seator seaplane, fitted with a 360-horse-power Rolls-Royce engine. Another change will he made at Vancouver into a three-senter D.H.9, and he will transfer at St. Johns, New foundlaud, for the last stage, into an F. 3 flying boat, equipped with two 360-liorse-power Rolls Roycc engines . He hopes to complete the entire trip in three mouths. Elaborate precautions have been taken against any mishap. All the machines are equipped with wireless, an da flotilla or tugs will be sent out from the Aleutian Islands, near Alaska, and from other points. . . . These also will be equipped with wireless, and able to render the speediest assistance. They will carry emergency rations. The Atlantic flying boat will he able to ride out the stormiest weather if disabled. The engineering strike lias caused Major Blake to alter his plans considerably. His flight partner, Lieut. Macmillan, is returning to England from Spain. It is expected that a third member will be added to the crew for troublesome portions of the journey.
