WAGE QUESTION IN N.S.W. GOVERNMENT WANTS REDUCTION. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.-) (Aust- and N.A- Canto Association.! Sydney May 17. The Government has deckled to reply to the Court for a reduction of 7s weekly from July 1, in the wages of public servants. It is estimated | that this will result in a saving of 11300.000 annually. The Government has also decided to introduce next session a Bill abolishing the 44-liour week. A meeting of Union leaders decided that the most effective resistance possible be made against any wage reductions. and that steps be taken to effect a consolidation of unions for this purpose. BUTCHERS AND MOTOR TRADE. PRICES WILL DROP WITH WAGES. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, May 17. The Master Butchers decided to observe the Court’s general orders regarding wages and to see the amount of wage reduction reflected in retail prices. The New Zealand Motor Trades Association decided to give effect to the Court’s pronouncement and that wages of all other employees not governed by awards be reduced by o per cent., and further decided that there should be a corresponding reduction in charges.
