The Feilding Star Oroua and Kiwitea Counties' Gazette WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, 1922. NEW MARKETS.
Almost at the same time yesterday, Mr Hugh Morrison, in his presidential address at the opening of the Provincial Conference of tho Farmers’ Union at Wanganui, and Mr Byron Brown, at the Palmerston Luncheon Club, were urging the' same matter: the need of exploiting Java and other portions of the Fast as a new market for our produce. Mr Brown, who has just returned from a sojourn amongst the Dutch islands of the East, said: “Imported Australian primary products were not hold in very high repute, and if New Zealand would only grasp tho opportunity there existed this country would have a fine, new market for its products.” President Morrison said: “Australia has made a start in exploiting the Eastern markets, and has sent a special delegation of business men to investigate tho possibilities of the East. If wo are awake wo should not lot Australia steal a march on us in this ’respect, and there is no doubt that wo should appoint a delegation to investigate these markets, and no time should bo lost in doing so.” Both gentlemen agreed upon a point that we would impress upon Feilding’s farmers and business men: The Chambers of Commerce in producing centres should help in getting tho possibilities of the new market investigated.
