Mrs Sarah Ross, who was well known in Palmerston North and Feilding, died in the public hospital yesterday, after a lengthy illness. She leaves a grown-up family. The Rev. J. Napier Milne has been appointed editor of the Methodist 'limes, in succession to tho Rev. W. J. Williams, who has now relinquished tho editorship after a long period of service.
Mr E. AV. Cavo has been appointed registrar of electors at Palmerston in succession, to the late Mr C. E. Shortt.
The Morning Telegraph (New York) stated recently that Mr Hugh J. Ward, the well known actor-manager of Sydney, became a British subject last January. "The reason," says the newspaper, "is reported to be a knighthood offered him some months ago because o'f his great work in raising war funds in Australia) which he could not accept at the time because of his allegiance to the United States. It is said that ho has finally decided to receive the proffered title and will henceforth be known as Sir .Hugh Ward." The Victoria Universit- of Toronto, Canada, has conferred the degree of Doctor of Divinity upon the Rev. C. H. Laws, B.A...principal of the Methodist Theological College, Auckland, and president of the Centenary Conference of the New Zealand Methodist Church.
The Rev. R. Ditterich, after returning thanks at Masterton, rjroposcd a vote of thanks to Mr Geo. Harford, of Feilding, "who was giving up all his time in superintending the present lecturing tour and had proved himself invaluable."
Mr L. Little, of the Bank of Now Zealand relieving stall', was on a short visit to Feilding yesterday.
