PETROL PRICES.

INCREASE TO BE INVESTIGATED. (By Electric CaW-Copyright.) Aust and N.Z. Cable AssociationWashington, May 13. The Government intends to investigate the reason for several recent increases in the price of petrol. During the past six weeks prices have risen a cent weekly, and petrol is now selling at from 29 to 31 cents per gallon. The Department of the Interior says that further increases, amounting to five cents, are expected by the middle 1 of June. Vast, surplus stocks make the increases difficult to understand.
