ENTERTAINMENTS

RACING PLAY AT EVERYBODY'S Scenes of Berby clays at prominent race tracks are vividly recalled in the William Fox special, "Thunderclap," which opens at the Oddfellows' Hall to-night, the piece-de-resistance of many thrills and pleasing situations being one of the most exciting horse races vet seen either on the track or on the screen. For the nonce, the atmosphere of tho motion picture fades into a typical Empire or Latonia scene in which one finds himself again good naturedly jostled by the vast throng and struggling for a point of vantage.as the entries parade before the' spectators. Again there is the suspense as the riders jockey for vantage at the wire, the snap of the barrier, the shout "They're off!" the clatter of steelshed hoofs, and subdued eagerness while the field flies down the back stretch, the closing spurt, the flash beneath the wire and tho shouts for the victor. It is all so real, genuine and thoroughly thrilling that this feature alon s is sufficient for the entertainment of those who witness "Thunderclap." The play is also thrilling throughout its seven reels. With good supports.

ISHAM PLAY AT THE LYCEUM. The starring vehicle at the Lyceum .Theatre to-night is "Half a Chance," starring Mahlon Hamilton and Lillian Rich. It is an adaption of the well known novel by Frederic S. Isuam, and the screen version makes one of the finest dramas ever" screened. The story tells of a man who was imprisoned for a crime of which he is innocent. Escaping,Jie is wrecked on an island. There his only companions are a set of law books. Years later, he is rescued,'and returning to New York he practices as a criminal "lawyer. Then .romance conies into his life in the shape of a beautiful girl. The leading feminine role is played by Lillian Rich and a notable cast. Another big '-feature is Larry Semon in "The Bakery"—which is really funny. "i

DANDY DIXIE MINSTRELS. The Dandy Dixie Minstrels are to appear in the Drill Hall next Thursday evening. Opening in the time approved way with a rousing chorus, the" develops from ragtime to a very excellent rendering of vocal master-, pieces by classical composers. The Hawthorne Sisters are good in vocal musical items. .Miss Daisy Morris contributes dances and songs. The coloured comedians, Messrs John Larkin' and Billy Sumner, at'e extra good. Whon John Larkin smiles,, the audience smiles with him—he is irresistible when'coupled with a salvo of laughs." His companion in mirth is also a trial to solemnity. In their humorous burlesque the company scored a decided hit. ~Box plans at Barrett's bookstall.
