MAN HUNT IN THE ATLANTIC.
SAILOR ADRIFJT 700 MILES FROM LAND. New York. Scores of ships of all kinds are searching for John Birkner, a British subject, who was cast adrift from the steamer Gaffney last Wednesday 700 miles from land. Four sailors, including Birkner, were lashing a lifeboat in a terrific storm, when a giant wave swentthe lifeboat into the sea and Birker with it He clamoured into the boat, but the Gaffney was unable to approach close enough to put a line on board. Birkner was warmly clad at the time of the accident, and the boat was well stocked with food and water —Renter.-
