In connection with the South African Medical Research Institute, Sir Spencer Lister has succeeded in curing two cases of sleeping sickness. The victims were soldiers who served in the East African campaign. The treatment Avas drastic and prolonged, consisting of serum injections. SENSATIONS IN EXPLORING. London, Nov. 20. Mr John Roscoe, a prominent scientist, has returned from a journey to the little-known portions of East Africa, made at the instance of the, Royal Society and the Government. Hβ travelled thousands of miles into the interior on foot and by bicycle, discovering many curious things, including 50 varieties of herbs, some of which appear to effect marvellous cures. He found native poisuns, implements, and instruments antedating 2000 v.c. He met tribes living entirely on milk. They owned enormous herds of cattle. Others existed wholly on Bamboo tips and moles, while another tribe considered it good form to eat their dead relatives. LOVERS AS DIPLOMATS.
