CR. HUGH BURRELL.
TRIBUTE FROM OROUA COUNT! COUNCIL. Yesterday afternoon the Oroua county Council had before it the following letter from its chairman, Cr. ■ Ug r ?,?r ell: "* re & ret thalt '» owing to ill-health. I shall not be able to be present at your meeting to-day. After giving careful consideration to the position, and in view of the fact that a great deal of work lies before the Council during the balance of the year, I am convinced that unless one can give the closest attention to the .position he is in duty bound to step aside and make room for' a better man. With this conviction, I beg to tender my resignation as a member for the Makino Riding on the Council, with which I have been associated for so many years, and from whose members I have received so many acts of kind consideration." Cr. Morrison said 'that members must all hear this letter with regret. But there was no occasion for Cr. Burrell to reeign. The Council should grant its chairman three months' leave of absence, and ask him to reconsider his resignation. Hβ moved in this direction. Cr. Vincent said they were all sorry indeed to learn of their chairman's illness, but they would certainly welcome Cr. BurrellV return to the Council's table. They did not see eye to eye nt all times, but they certainly did appreciate their chairman. Cr. Pearce remarked that as there were only five more meetings for the present Council, when all the councillors would go.out of office, Cr. Bur:rell shoiild be asked to reconsider his resignation. The motion was carried. Members agreed to look after the needs and interests of the chairman's riding. ■ .
