GISBORNE RACES. CYMER WINS THE HTJUDLES. (Per "Press Association.) .'* Gisborne, May 10. The weather is dull but fine for the opening of the Gisborne {Racing Club's meeting. There is a good attendance. Park Hurdles.—Corner 1, Cross Words 2, Hokifax 3. Scratched: Ore Ore, Vacuum. Won by two lengths, twelve lengths between second and third. Time, 3.51*. R. J. Mason will leave for Australia on the 17th inst., if transport difficul-ties-are overcome by then. It is worth noting that no less than five horses fell 'at the ibrush fence which replaced the old water jump in the two steeplechases decided at Auckland on Monday. The Great Northern Steeplechase was a very unlucky" one for J. Williamson, "for in addition to losing Gairyowen,' No Surrender, in which he hae a half interest, broke down so badly that it will be some time before he ever races again, if ever. The Ellerslie country has been a disastrous one for the trainer named, for Garryowen is the third horse he has lost while racing in steeplechases at headquarters, the other two beingHautere and Te Ongo.
