APITI NOTES.

HOCKEY, FOOTBALL, PERSONAL

The Kimbolton lady hockey players "paid a> visit "to Apiti on Saturday I ,'-and gave the Apiti ladies their-first'match. The Kimbolton ladies /,iy,on" by four goals to three. The game was fairly oven and quite f exciting. The local team were quite prepared for a beating as several of tlieir leading players were laid up with . influenza. Misses D. McMullan, M. Stewart and Miss Purnell were the pick of the local team; and for , the visitors Misses Heley, Pettigrew and Miss Aforirs played extra well. Mrs Everiss made a very good referee. After the match tho Apiti ladies entertained the visitors to afternoon tea in the Oddifellows . Hall. ! The Kimbolton footballers also paid » visit to! Apiti, and played their first cup match. Unfortunately for both sides there was a steady,- downpour of rain, which made the ball very slippery. Tho game was well contested from start to, finish; there being no score on either side. There were sev- : eral attempts at goal kicking on both sides from penalty kicks, the place kicks being rather poor. Apiti would do well by makirfg a point of coaching" s - a good place kick for future matches, las the game could easily have been won on the penalty kicks right in front of the goal. For the Kimbolton team F. Nesdale and Wright brothers were easily the pick of the team, and for the local team W. Duncan and D. McNae, by their safe kicking, made no mistakes. White, I). Brough, and Allen also played a safe game. Apiti was unfortunate in having no less than eight of their senior players down, with the flue, but the scratch men proved themselves Worthy of their places, and are the making of good players. Mr Inkley, from Rangiwahia, made an impartial referee. The Memorial Committee held a meeting last week, but so far have not made much progress towards the object in view, in putting up ;i monument to the departed soldiers, the cliflficulty_ so far has been the fretting of a suitable sectio». Tho section the Committee had in view wyns considered too expensive. There was .some dis- . cussion as to ."whether the monument should 'be erected in thp s,tliool grounds or that another effort be'made to buy "a section somewhere an the centre of.thej'town. It was finally iesolved to approach Mr Strahan ab to? whether he wjQuld sell the,'coiner town section between the Wesley-rin -Church and the Bank.. The Public Committee held a meeting in the Oddfellows*' Hall to consider the {proposal to ' borrow t the money for a new hall the County Council. As there is no money available from the 'Government,' it was decided not to ."prcss" , ,-tue (matter just now, but in ', the;'meantime % tb make inquiries as to 'the price ot , , some of the vacant houses, with the object of transforming one of them into- a temporary public Ball. We are pleased to sec Mr GV Smith's little boy "Bobby/ , back hp-me 'again after his recent 'illness, also we hear that Mr Bennett's 'little girl Yvonne is doing well, and likely 'to be home in a few days. Both 6h"ildren were operated on for appendicitis in Nurse Brown's Hospital. _ '
