Mr W. T. Hambly, formerly iiietructor in wool-classing; under the Wanganui Education Board, is instructing soldiers at Rotorua. ■A very well-known and esteemed resident of Auckland, Mr Charles McIntyre Page, of Seccombe's road, Newmarket, died at the Auckland Hospital on Monday iv his 51st year. The engagement is announced of Miss Coralie Campion, the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Campion, of Okirae, Wanganui, and Mr L. O. Hanna, son of Mr T. H. Hanna/ of Kaipara, Auckland. Miss Mary Parsons, the youngest daughter of Mr. Thomas Parsons, Mayor of Eketahuna, was married to Mr Wilfred Calton, youngest son ol Mr T. F. Calton, of Newman, on Tuesday. Sir Thos. Mackenzie's son, Clutha, who was blinded at Gallipoli, and was a passenger to Australia in H.M.S. New Zealand, arrived in Wellington by the steamer Armagh, on Tuesday. The death is recorded of Mr. G. H. Dickson, Engineer to.the Waitotara County Council, who passed away unexpectedly yesterday. Mr. W. H. Sniifch, who was for many years manager of To Aro House, Wellington, and had lately been manager of the Mutual Stores Ltd., Dunedin, died suddenly in the southern city at midday on Wednesday. Owing to the Rev. R. H. Hobday having been appointed headmaster ol the Diocesan Boys' High School at Day's Bay, the Rev. O. M. Stent, vicar of Eastbourne, has gone back to Eltham to take temporary charge of the parish. Mr C. E. Hylton. for over thirty years public librarian at Wanganui, died on Wednesday, aged 62 years. Mr Hylton was a valued citizen who was held in high esteem by all Who knew him. A widow, one son and two daughters are left to mourn thenloss. Mr Alfred Seifert, of Palmerstoii, will leave by the Tofua for the United States on Saturday. His purpose is to ascertain if- certain processes can be evolved for making use of waste products .of the Haxmills. He will be accompanied by his son, Master H. A. Seifert. Two weddings were celebrated at Foxton on Wednesday, both at the Presbyterian Church. Mr Henry McKcgney, of Blenheim, was married to Miss Edith Jane Jones, daughter, daughter of Mr and Mrs Phillip Jones, of Bainesse, and Mr John Edward Meaclem. of Ashburton, to Miss Mabel Cooke, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Cooke, of Foxton. Dr. Margaret McCahon, who is resigning from the position of Medical Inspector of Schools on her approaching marriage, was the truest of honour at an'afternoon tea given by Dr Ethel Sands, at Williamson's Buildings (Auckland) last week. Speeches wore made by Mr E. K. Mulgan, Mr C. J. Parr. M.P., the Hon. G. J. Garland, M.L.C.. Mr E. C. Purdie, and Mrs Bauuie. who congratulated Dr. McCahon on the fine work she had accomplished during her term of office and wished her success and future happiness.

I The death occurred at Pukekohe on Sunday of Mr Walter Ramsay, a well-known resident, at the age of 82 years. Deceased, who was horn at Glasgow, Scotian<l, came to New Zealand in 18G2 in the sailing ship Cheviot. He landed at Dunedin. where he resided for 12 months. He subsequently resided at Hokitika, where he set tip as a leaf her merchant. During his residence in Hokitika he was a member of the Borough Council. Racing Club and School Committee. Afterwards Mr Ramsay carried on his business at Wellington for 20 years, and came to Pukekohe 7 .J- years ago. He leaves a widow and three daughters.

Pembe.r Reeves, formerly High Commissioner for New Zealand, has rcsignexl the post or Director of the London School ol Economics which he has ihekl for the past eleven years. The Court of Governors, in accepting the resignation, have placed on record their appreciation of Mr Reeve's "rent services to education, and the manner in which he maintained the reputation of the school. Sir Reeves is also, a member of the Senate of London University.
