The conclusion of the war has revived the' outcry in the Dominion against what is generally known as the American Meat Trust, and at. Home the Food Controller's Department has acknowledged this week Mint uneasiness is being caused to the Imperial Government by the Trust's growing power of control over the meat prices of the world. The apprehensions of those who are 'disquieted Iby the knowledge that this Trust is 'operating in New Zealand (says tlfe Otago Daily Tiniecs editorially) will have been increased by the recent report Ihat Messrs Nelson Bros., Limited, have disposed of their interests in this country to an American-f.-oinpaiiy. Messrs Nelson Bros, were the owners of three freezing works in the Dominion —namely, the Tomoana Works (Hawkes' Bay), with a killing capacity of 3000 sheep and 80 head of cattle per day. and a storage capacity of 155,000 carcases ol mutton: the Tarirheru Works (Gisborne), with a killing capacity of 3000 sheep and 80 head of catilejie relay, and a storage capacity of 0.5,000 carcases of mutton ; the Hornby Works, near Christchurch, with a killing capacity of 1500 sheep per day, and a storage capatfly of 04,000 carcases ot mutton. If it may be assumed that he American company which has acquired these extensive interests in the Dominion is controlled by tlie Trust, it would '-ecui that the Trust is not greatly perturbed by the measures übich have been legislatively taken in New Zealand to defeat its purpose.
