UNDER MR HEWITT'S CONTROL,

The Aveekly sitting of the Magistrate's Court in Feilding was presided over by _lr J. G. L. Hewitt, of tho Southern Main Trunk Service, Feilding now being permanently attached to this circuit, of which Marton is now the centre, being severed from Palmerston, under the jurisdiction of which it had been for many years. In tho early days of Feilding—in the late seventies and early eighties—tbe Marton Magistrate had Feilding as part of his circuit. There is a reversion, therefore, to the old order. i i

ON THE CIVIL SIDE. Judgment by default was given in the following cases: E. M. Livesey (Mr Taylor) v. J. Merrett £6 6s, Court costs £2 3s 6d. Geo. Wells (Mr Ongley) v. A. McKenzie £9 lis lOd. coste £1 3s 6d.

Houlden and McLean sued Bruce Bros. (Mr Taylor) for £5 17s for work done. After considerable evidence was given, the Magistrate found for plaintiffs for the amount claimed, with £3 costs. Tautari Wiremu, otherwise known as Richard Drummond (Mr Gordon) proceeded against Levin and Co., Ltd. (Mr Haggitt) for £14 18s for grazing. This case occupied some time, and after lengthy evidence on both sides, the Magistrate gave judgment for plaintiff for 18s only, with costs £1 15s.

ON THE CRIMINAL SIDE. j

Claude Randolph Marmont was proceeded against by Aileen Louisa Marmont (Mr Ongley) for separation maintenance and custody of the children of the marriage (three in number.) On the accused consenting the Magistrate made an order for maintenance of £1 per week for the *rvife and 7s 6d per week for each child, the mother to have the custody of the children. | William Burgess, for allowing his car to remain stationary in Manchester Square on August 23 last, was fined the then current rate of trouble, 5s with costs 7s. George Hunt, for disobedience of his maintenance order, was convicted and sentenced to one month's imprisonment at Wellington, unless he pays the amount of arrears outstanding (£7 12s 6d) within three weeks. | Arthur Edwin Clover, for failing to attend drill, was fined 50s and 7s costs. i Walter Penehira, for a similar offence, was fined 70s, with 14s 6d costs, he being an old offender. , Leslie Earl came under the 50s tariff, with costs 7s, for a similar offence. Four drill cases were dismissed, five Avere withdrawn, and seven adjourned to December 4. ,
