Notes and Comments.

He Touches the Spot. Commenting on the Star's editorial on the Liberty War Loan, a correspon dent writes: "Why shouldn't the Loan go well? It is the best investment ever offered to an income tax-paying moneyed person." Stopping His Larkin. Jim Larkin is an agitator well known in British seaports, and particularly in Dublin, where he organised a disastrous strike some years ago. Recently, he crossed over p'o America, where the Government ordered him to move on. It is suspected that he is coming on to Australia, and the Federal Government promptly decided that this notorious mischief-maker should not be permitted to land. It is now gratifying to loam that the New Zealand Government has its two eyes on the wanderer. When Mr. Wright asked the Government if it will follow Australia's example in keeping outJim Larkin, the Premier remarked: "I can answer that at once. Larkin will not be allowed to land in New Zealand."

The Rain and the Roads. Roads naturally suffer from the heavy rains. Sunday's and Monday's extraordinary deluge has left its marks all over our country districts. In several places the flood waters from the Makino and the Mangaone streams raced over the paddocks and across the Feilding-Awahuri road, washing ou ; t tho binding and loosening the metal, thereby adding to the troubles of the County Overseer. Added to this, tlie motor car traffic on"the soaked roads has done much damage. From end to end the roads are dented with pot-holes, making travelling unpleasant. Road engineers are pointing out more and more insistently that only concrete roads will stand the traffic. Which will come first—the concrete road or the millennium?
