THE LOCAL APPLICATION.

Tituiiii are somo hours of deep .shame and degradation coining to many young men in Feilding and district from tho iirst day of next month. Some have not only shirked, but they are double-dyed in their Hhirkfulncss. Shamed into enlisting, they havo straightway given a false address. When tho call came, it Avas recorded of thorn: "Gone—left no address!" Some have even boasted of this as a bit of smartness. But Nemesis is a sticker. Bo sure your .shirk will find you out. The Military Service Act is now hot on the trail of tho doubledealers. Will they confess up voluntarily or will they wait for tho heavy hand or the law to be laid upon them? Presently we shall have some of theso shirkers begging of tho newspapers to keep their names out of tho paper. Truly, with the coming into force of compulsory service, tho way of the transgressor will bo hard. Aro thero many of him? It has been estimated that, despite tho splendid response there has been made in this district by the men who havo volunteered for service, if would bo possible to get a whole regiment, of eligiblo fighting men (1000) within Feilding and district. It seems hard to believe,, yet that estimate is given to us by one who is- in a position to know. There will be some heart scarchings from now on in the shop and tho office and tho factory and on the farm and in families that havo not yet contributed to tho Dominion's man-power for active service. Employers can no longer give work to shirkers, and tho latter has not where to hide his head after tho last day of tho present month. Why not quit shirking right now?
