WOMEN SPEAKERS IN
CHURCHES
London, August IG. Recent remarks by the bishop of London suggesting that women .should be conditionally permitted to deliver addresses in tho churches during the forthcoming mission have aroused an active controversy.
Tho Rishop explains that he never intended to permit women to bo preachers. Ho asks the clergy to suspend their opinions till he confers with them.
[A message published in Sydney last week stated that tho Bishop of London (Dr. A. F. Winnington-lngram) has sanctioned women loading church services provided they do not speak from the pulpit, lectern, or chancel stops. They must, also, only address girls.]
