GOOD LOGIC.

In tho course of tho debate on oariy closing of hotel-bars, tho member for Rangitikoi, Mr E. Newman, said that tho National Government was in a peculiar position, and all relied on the National Government giving fair play all round. It had been argued by tho Government that tho people had declared against interference with the liquor traffic at last elections. Well, had tho people been asked to agreo to tho Military Servico Bill just passed, at tlie last election they would probably have rejected it. Conditions had vastly changed since last election. Again, if, as had been, argued by the Minister in charge of the Bill, the closing of hotels earlier should not bo done without compensation, then it was equally logical that anti-shouting should not have been carried without compensation. He thought, therefore, that tho Minister's arguments were inconsistent. He believed in the restriction of the liquor traffic becauso ho considered it would bo an economic benefit to the country.
