FELDING FIRE BOARD.

IHE HONORARY SECRETARY

Mr. 11. It. Fitzgerald, tho veteran fireman and honorary secretary of the Feilding Fire Brigade, has written the following' letter, addressed to the Superintendent of the Brigade: 'T beg to draw your attention fo a ,'iii.sstatouient in the Feilding Stak report of thie Feilding Fire Board annual m.eetiiifj. Under the heading 'Salaries' an item appears, 'Secretary, £6 os.' This, x presume, was for three months' salary to the Secretary, Feilding Fire Board. As the secretaryship of your Brigade is an honorary position, I think, sir, that, it is only fair both to myself and my Brigade, in face of said report, that the public should be notified the names of persons drawing salaries from the Fire Board. If I am mistaken, and said grant has been made to Brigade secretary, I have very great pleasure

in authorising j r ou to hand said amount over to Sailors' Relief Fund, on behalf of Brigade." Of course, the item referred to was the salary paid to Mr. A. J. Geary, ihe Secretary of the Fire Board, and it is unlikely that it would be taken to mea n anything else. However, we willingly publish the letter, at the request of such a willing and capable servant of the town, per medium of the Fire Brigade, a.s Fireman-Secre-tary Fitzgerald, whose work as secretary has -always been free of cost to anyone—except Mr. Fitzgerald himself.
